Friends of Five Rivers Supports Environmental Treasure

When you hear "Five Rivers Environmental Education Center," does it bring a warm, familiar smile to your face? Did you visit there when you were young, or did your children/grandchildren participate in school trips there? Do you spend time there now walking the 10 miles of trails, participating in birding or bat counts, or capturing nature photos?

Five Rivers Environmental Education Center was established more than 50 years ago (and prior to that, many knew it as the Delmar Game Farm). Did you know you can easily help ensure that it remains an environmental treasure in the Capital Region for decades to come?

Friends of Five Rivers serves as the non-profit support arm of the New York State Department of Environmental Conservations (NYSDEC)-owned and operated facility. The Friends' group - driven by membership - coordinates a majority of the education programs taking place onsite, including the long-standing and popular science-based Guided School Program, as well as year-round family nature programs. Consider joining this community group to become part of a collective voice that recognizes the importance and beauty of this local environmental gem. The strength of that voice is vital to an organization that relies on membership, donations, and grants to support its mission of advancing outdoor classroom education and land preservation.

If you are unfamiliar with Five Rivers, please stop by to visit us to connect with nature. Trails are open every day dawn to dusk, while the Visitor Center with its instructional exhibits, live animal ambassadors, and a unique Gift Shop, is open Monday through Saturday from 9 am to 4:30 pm. Our environmental educators are eager to greet you and share their nature knowledge! The public is also invited to the annual Five Rivers Fall Festival on Saturday, September 23 from 10 am to 4 pm. This family-friendly event offers something for all ages from interactive exhibits to guided walks, music, games, crafts, and food vendors!

With the support of our members, the backing of individuals and companies like yours, our partnership with the NYSDEC, and our volunteer core, Friends of Five Rivers will be able to continue providing visitors and students with an unmatched environmental education experience.
